Guiding your every step, since 1912.

Since our founding, the Lackawanna Blind Association has served the blind and visually impaired communities in the Lackawanna and Susquehanna counties. We offer support services, host community events, and provide educational resources for individuals of all ages; empowering them to lead independent, fulfilling lives and fostering a stronger, more inclusive community.

Visual impairment is not uncommon.
It's a public health crisis.

Over 12 million people in the US have experienced vision loss.

If you're among those affected, you might find daily tasks more challenging. Whether it's reading, moving around your home, cooking, identifying money, writing checks, or even dialing the phone, these once simple activities can become difficult. The emotional impact can also be significant, leading to feelings of sadness, anxiety, or depression.

With LBA, you're not alone.

If your vision problems are interfering with your life in any way, the Lackawanna Blind Association (LBA) is here to help. You can start by working one-on-one with an LBA Case Worker, who will assess your needs and recommend the programs best suited to support you.

We're not just caseworkers:
we are a community.

We provide support groups, exercise instruction, life skills training, sensory development, and access to technology. Our minibus transportation ensures you can attend agency classes and social activities, such as descriptive movies, an audio book club, and seasonal parties and outings. To keep you informed, our monthly calendar of events is available in email, audio, print, and braille formats.

“My grandmother was a client here at the Lackawanna Blind Association back in the 70's and one thing I remember is how excited she was when we went on a bus trip that the clients were all going on... it made her feel so good to be able to get out, to walk around, and just enjoy herself.”
